New Girl: Backslide

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the late upload of the New Girl recap this week, I had a lot of university things to sort out for next year. I also had to see friends from home for the first time in months, hunt down a biscuit barrel for my mum (don't ask!), vote in the local elections and it was my birthday! It’s safe to say I have been majorly stressed out! But now my uni stuff is sorted out and I’m finished with birthday celebrations I am back to good old blogging (yay!)

This week saw the return of Paul, Jess' slightly dorky but loveable ex, but was he as loveable this time round? No he certainly was not!
Doing the walk of shame...
After spending the night with Jess (maybe even taking advantage of her in her depressed post-Russell state) we found out that Paul was actually in a very serious relationship with the Asian version of Jess! Naturally Caucasian Jess was pretty annoyed when she found out she had been used which certainly didn’t help her to move on from her break-up from Russell.
Caucasian and Asian Jess
Jess was torn over what she should do. Should she tell Jen (Asian Jess) that she had slept with Paul or leave them to sort things out by themselves? In the end Jess decided that it was best to come clean leaving Jen devastated.
After mutual ‘smile-cry’ by Jen and Paul, Jess came to realise that those two were perfect for each other. She helped to patch up their relationship which ended up with Paul proposing to Jen (a rather strange thing to do in front of your ex-girlfriend).
The slightly awkward proposal.
Caroline, unfortunately, is still hanging around, annoying the flat family and dating Nick. What makes her presence worse is that while she was apartment hunting, she suggested to Nick that they should move in together, which Nick agreed to.
It was a pretty big fire place...
The guys stepped in to show Nick a DVD he made the last time that he broke up with Caroline attempting to convince his future self to never get back with her, but even this didn't seem to work and Nick appeared to be even more determined to leave the loft (let's hope the gang can convince him not to in next week’s season finale).
There was no escape for Nick.
Poor Schmidt, or should we say poor little Schmidt. He is still in a lot of pain from his little adventure with Cece’s flatmate and was desperately trying not to let little Schmidt, shall we say, ‘get happy’. Cece being the brilliant girlfriend that she is switched her designer clothes for baggy jumpers and knitted hats in an attempt to make herself look less attractive.
Needless to say this didn’t work and instead of being turned on by Cece’s good looks, Schmidt was instead turned on by the emotional intimacy of discussing their future together, so much so that he actually passed out while visiting her grandmother in a care home (not a brilliant way to make a first impression).
I'll just have a little nap here...
The accompanying story of this episode was Winston’s decision to get his ear pierced. He then went through the entire episode changing his earrings much to the delight of his friends who called him every name under the sun. My personal favourite definitely had to be Captain Black Sparrow, provided to us by Schmidt.
Captain Black Sparrow himself.
As the episode drew to a close, Jess rushed to tell Nick the news of Paul’s engagement and give him advice on his situation with Caroline. This was one of my favourite scenes, possibly of the entire season, as you could see how much Jess cared for Nick which was really sweet.
Now I don’t usually quote episodes but Jess’ inspirational line from the final couple of minutes is sure to be repeated for years to come:
“If you really love someone, it’s simple.”
Some advice for you kids to think about there, now where was I? Oh yeah. Unfortunately after Jess’ advice Nick went and ruined the moment by revealing that he had signed the lease on an apartment with Caroline and he will be leaving the flat forever.
Next week’s season finale is hopefully going to see Nick change his mind and stay in the loft where he and Jess will get married, have kids and grow old together. Too much to hope for? Well maybe a little. I suppose I could settle for Nick breaking-up with Caroline and carrying on living with the gang but we’ll have to wait until next week to see what’s in store.
Well I’m off to have a cup of tea and watch some Alan Carr.
Until next week TTFN Ta-Ta for Now x

Top Five Movies to Look Forward to in May

With summer on its way we begin to head towards some of the most anticipated movie releases of the year. This month could be one where the guys are at the cinema more than the girls as Men in Black III, Battleship, and The Dictator are all set to hit the big screen within the next few weeks.

May 4th 2012
Avengers Assemble
Director: Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel).
The first big movie release of the month will have lovers of Marvel Comics queuing out the doors. The latest superhero movie sees some of the most popular characters team up to defend the planet from the evil Loki and his army. With an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson, it is sure to be one of the higher grossing films of the year.

May 11th 2012
Dark Shadows
Director: Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands).
It’s another film for Team Burton, Depp, Bonham-Carter and Elfman and on this adventure we meet Barnabus Collins (Depp) a 200-year-old vampire who finds himself in the disco days of the 70’s, after being imprisoned underground by an evil witch. He returns to his former home where his descendants are now living and struggles to come to terms with the technological advances of the 70’s as well as the re-appearance of the very witch who cursed him in the first place. Hopefully this film will live up to the expectations that come with such a well-known team and provide us with another Tim Burton film to add to our list of favourites.

May 18th 2012
Battleship
Director: Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Hancock).
Another one for the guys here and its Rihanna’s first big screen appearance. Judging by the trailer, Rihanna spends most of her time standing about looking pretty but it’s easy to be sceptical about her acting skills and with Liam Neeson (Taken) and Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) as co-stars she will have a lot to live up to. Battleship follows the story of an alien army that is found under the sea by naval officers during a training exercise. In the usual sci-fi action film format the aliens then commence war against the humans for unknown reasons. Although the plot seems to be nothing new, from the looks of the trailer the special effects are quite amazing and teaming these with an interesting cast choice could make Battleship a rather enjoyable watch.

May 23rd 2012 (UK) May 18th 2012 (USA)
What to Expect When You’re Expecting
Director: Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee, Everybody’s Fine)
Now onto the comedy of the month with a cast that includes many household names and some of my favourite actors. This film’s cast alone is enough to attract the audiences with Cameron Diaz (In Her Shoes), Jennifer Lopez (Monster in Law), Dennis Quaid (The Parent Trap), Chris Rock (Madagascar), Anna Kendrick (Twilight), Matthew Morrison (Glee), Joe Manganiello (True Blood), and Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) all making an appearance. Inspired by the book of the same name, What to Expect When You’re Expecting follows the lives of five couples that are all connected to each other in different ways, think Love Actually but with pregnant hormonal women. By the looks of the trailer even the guys will be able to enjoy this film as comedy is provided for them by a Hangover-style group of newbie Dads known as ‘The Dudes’. A perfect film for couples.

May 25th 2012
Men in Black III
Director: Barry Sonnenfeld (The Addams Family, Men in Black)
Last but not least is the highly anticipated Men in Black III which features another singer turned actor crossover this time starring Lady Gaga and Nicole Scherzinger, (Justin Bieber is also rumoured to make an appearance but he has not been mentioned as part of cast on IMDb).  In this instalment of the popular franchise we find Agent J (Will Smith) being sent back in time to prevent Agent K (Josh Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones) from being assassinated by an evil alien in 1969, an event which changed history and put Planet Earth at risk. It has been ten years since the last Men in Black movie and while that’s quite a long wait for a sequel, having a number of celebrity appearances may even attract a whole new generation of fans to the popular series.

Those are my top five films to look out for in May. Check back here next month for my pick of the films in June and with such a number of films that I’m already excited for I’m going to have a tough time narrowing it down to five.

The Vampire Diaries: Do Not Go Gentle

It was the annual Decade Dance and following the tradition of the previous dances we found our favourite characters lives in peril with Esther and Evil Alaric out to destroy all vampires.

Poor Alaric, the guy can’t catch a break! After finding out his wife had abandoned him for a more exciting life as a vampire he then discovered she had a daughter that she never told him about who was the niece of his current girlfriend Jenna and the daughter of Jenna’s brother-in-law John. Jenna was then turned into a vampire and sacrificed by Klaus, which left Ric to look after his ex-wife’s daughter/dead girlfriend’s niece, Elena, who also happened to have a brother/cousin, Jeremy. Ric then found himself developing a vampire hating alter ego intent on ridding the world of vampires who was willing to turn into an original vampire to do it (seriously, you can’t make this stuff up!)
So Evil Alaric teamed up with Esther and they commenced their plans to destroy all the Originals and kill their bloodlines off along with them, which would result in vampires becoming extinct. While Evil Alaric was running around with his new BFF the rest of the cast were busy attending the 1920’s themed Decade Dance.
This week it was a turn for all the Stelena fans out there as Elena decided that since she had made out with one brother, she should really ask the other out on a date (wait what?) There were definitely some rather cute scenes between the former lovebirds but they really weren’t a patch on the epic Damon and Elena scenes of the previous episode (go team Delena!)

"Hey did I forget to mention I made out with your brother?"

Unfortunately the reminiscing between Stefan and Elena was cut short by none other than Damon himself, with the news that Alaric was going to have to die.
While the vampires were trapped inside the school by a spell that Esther had cast, Elena and Jeremy headed over to talk to Alaric but before they could get the chance to see him, they were stopped by Esther who didn’t really need to say much to convince Elena to go with her.
It was then Bonnie and Jamie’s turn to have their romantic moment ruined by Damon who informed them of the sticky situation that was going on and as usual poor Bonnie was expected to run to the help of the vampires which truthfully she doesn’t even like that much.
Now Klaus being the jealous type seemed to be getting a bit annoyed with the amount of romantic encounters that Damon had managed to ruin in this episode, so he decided to get back and ruin one between Caroline and Tyler which was pretty easy to do since Tyler was having to pretend that Klaus was still able to control him: Damon 2 - Klaus 1 - Romantic Moments - 0

"So what if I've tried to kill your best friends on several occasions?"

After some hocusing and pocusing by Esther, Evil Alaric was ready to become the ultimate vampire killer but during his transition he returned to his former self to save the day and give his pals a chance to say goodbye. The Alaric death scenes really were some of the most heart-breaking of the season with all characters struggling to come to terms with the thought of losing one of their closest friends (although they were clearly not all that sad about it or they would have stayed till the end instead of going to the pub!)

But Alaric’s not really dead…yet. The witches, as usual, were not all that happy that their plan failed so they decided to take Bonnies’ freewill away from her again and bewitched her into going to the tomb and feeding Alaric her blood, forcing him to complete the transition.

Super Mega Ultimate Evil Vampire Slaying Alaric is born!

So while we had known for a while that this episode was going to have us all in tears did it live up to my expectations? Well truthfully no. From the way that the cast and the producers were going on about this episode I half expected there to be deaths all over the place or Damon and Stefan agreeing to kill themselves for Elena or something like that. The Alaric death scenes were excellently acted but after several spoiler websites going on and on about this episode, I was kind of left thinking “was that it?” Let’s hope that the finale doesn’t have the same effect as it is also receiving a lot of hype at the moment as Elena making her choice, a number of deaths and a huge cliff hanger are all promised for the episode.
Let me know what you thought of this episode in the comment section below and feel free to share your opinions on how you think the final episodes are going to play out.
Also, if you haven’t seen them before, I highly recommend reading the photo recaps from TV.com they’re rather hilarious.
Until next week TTFN x

New Girl: Tomatoes

In this episode of New Girl we find poor Nick feeling like a large number of us do, looking around to see all of our close chums happily paired up in loving relationships, while we spend our time thinking up the names of the 17 cats we will most likely grow old with.
It seems that while New Girl is first and foremost a comedy it actually has grown to be more of a comedy drama that handles a lot of real life issues and thankfully puts a funny twist on them to make us feel slightly better about our situations.
I’m afraid to say while watching this episode of New Girl I found myself drawing far too many parallels with Nick. Most people would find his idea of turning his affections to vegetables quite hilarious; I on the other hand have already gone through this process with my little sunflower, Sunny (original, I know).
"Who wants tea?"
I can relate to how Nick feels. I live in a flat in Edinburgh with four other girls, two in a happy long-term relationship, one single girl like me and one flatmate who is Chinese and speaks very little English so I can barely ask her if she would like a cup of tea, never mind asking her relationship status. Come to think of it I haven’t seen for about six weeks, I should maybe go check on her…
So while me and my single flatmate sit in the kitchen at night watching Love Actually and eating Ben and Jerry’s out of the tub (usually with only one spoon as we haven’t done the washing up) our other flatmates pop in and out with their boyfriends looking happy and having a wonderful time.
It is at this moment that we decided to get a pet to prove that we could look after something other than ourselves (which we barely manage anyway). Enter Sunny, a grow-your-own sunflower kit aimed at children that we bought at the local supermarket. After carefully reading the instructions on how to look after him and managing to almost drown him in the kitchen sink, we had our little sunflower seeds planted and ready to start germinating.
And here he is now:

The fabulous view from my kitchen window...

Yes we have almost managed to grow our own little sunflower! Whether or not he manages to bloom is another story but never mind that he’s alive!
Anyway, back to New Girl where we find out that these apparently happy relationships are unfortunately going through a bit of a rough patch. Cece and Schmidt start of this episode clearly still shaken up from their recent pregnancy scare and decide to call it a day, which leads to painful yet hilarious consequences for poor Schmidt who is determined to prove a point by dating Cece’s rather abrupt Russian flatmate. Thankfully by the end of the episode they have both realised how cute they are together and decide to kiss and make up, which does nothing to help little Schmidt’s pain!
However, it seems that it’s not so rosy for Jess and Russell (AKA Gavin from Friends) with the re-appearance of his ex-wife causing quite a stir between the pair. It was easy for anyone to see the passion that still connects the divorcees which led Jess to one of the most awkward attempts of seduction to grace our screens. The odd couple may yet face another uphill battle with Jess’ ex-boyfriend Paul coming back for next week’s episode if the rumours are true. I don’t know about you but I don’t see Jess and Russell making it to the seasons end.
Unfortunately they weren’t the only couple who look set to break up, Nick and his poor tomatoes appear to be doomed as he abandoned them and got back together with his rather unpopular ex-girlfriend Caroline. I would have been more annoyed about this if it hadn’t led to a rather hot argument between Nick and Jess, future couple? Let’s hope so!
And there we have it my first round up of New Girl with a slight diversion into my life along the way. Let me know what you think in the comment section below and keep reading My Wee Bonnie Blog for more reviews, round-ups and rambles.

Hello Lads and Lassies

So, here I am, an 18 year old single small town gal who has suddenly found herself living in the capital. How I ended up here still amazes me, it’s like I just took all my reservations and thoughts on life from the previous 17 years and threw them out the window!
Basically I have realised that I talk too much, I am that person who if no one will speak to me, I will happily speak to myself, I live my life on a daily basis with a running commentary, kind of imagine a female version of J.D. but without a black sidekick, or the brains to be a doctor. Throughout high school I was told I was a pretty humorous writer which was “great entertainment for a Sunday night read before heading back to the hectic working lifestyle, but lacked plot and was similar to a child’s take on the world”. Well I’ve finished high school, moved out from the comforts of the family home and started university (on a course that requires a high standard of English!) and even though I should have a brilliant grasp and understanding of English, my humour and view of the world hasn’t really grown up all that much, even if I have.
So while I wait on my personality to reach puberty, I’m going to go with what I’ve got, which might not be much but “always look on the bright side of life…”
